The biggest European event dedicated to space cybersecurity.

Since 2021, CYSEC has been organizing CYSAT, the biggest European event entirely dedicated to cybersecurity for the space industry. The last edition took place last 26th and 27th April 2023 at Station F in Paris.

But, first let’s remember how the idea of creating CYSAT came through.

Back in 2019, Cybersecurity for the space industry was a very new topic especially for civil and commercial missions. At that time,  space experts talked a lot about newspace and private investments made in space companies to do business with small satellites with a forecast of an exponential growth.

As a specialized cybersecurity company, CYSEC understood the need for securing the space industry and looking at what was happening  in the US. Matter of fact, a lot of US people were already working on this subject and conference, contest of hackers hacking satellites, researchers publishing works, were already on going.

However, at the same time, nothing was happening in Europe – and no space community existed yet. In order to raise awareness  of the need for cybersecurity for the space industry in Europe, CYSEC decided to create an exclusive event.

Faced with cybersecurity challenges and the growing importance of data protection in space, CYSAT’s goal is indeed bringing together communities of cybersecurity and space experts to build a new European ecosystem capable of addressing current and future industry challenges.

The 2023 edition brought together more than 750 space specialists, decision-makers and experts.

During the 2-day event, CYSAT highlighted Europe’s cybersecurity capabilities and solutions dedicated to space from both a technological and geostrategic perspective.

“During CYSAT 2023, we wanted to bring the major players in space and cybersecurity together again, with the aim to create a sovereign European ecosystem, capable of addressing these technological and economic challenges. We fostered a continuum between established players and newcomers in the space industry to demonstrate Europe’s capacity for innovation and the opportunities this new ecosystem has

What exactly happened ?

  • An exclusive testimony by General Oleksandr Potii, Deputy Chairman of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. A year after the cyber-attack on satellite network KA-SAT, Potii reflected on what lessons can be learned from this attack.
  • Talks and keynotes from renowned industry experts, including Lionel Suchet, COO of CNES, Massimo Mercati, Head of Security at ESA and Greg Wyler, founder of E-Space.
  • An overview of the challenges ahead for the new IRIS2 constellation and its crucial importance for Europe’s strategic autonomy.
  • Workshops and technical demonstrations highlighting the know-how of the space industry such as the introduction of the SATLINK & SATCOM Product of CYSEC.
  • ..and the cherry on the cake, CYSAT’s organizers had the idea to bring the challenge higher and organized the first offensive security demo on a flying satellite. This world premiere was performed by Thales & ESA.

With 27 sponsors, 28 represented countries and more than 750 attendees, no doubt  that CYSAT has become a must-attend event in the space industry.

The next edition will take place on 24th & 25th April 2024, in Paris. Save the date!
