CYSAT’21 – kicking-off March 17th

CYSAT ’21, the first European event around cybersecurity for commercial space, is taking place from March 17th to 19th fully virtually, broadcasting live from Davos, Switzerland.

Co-organized by CYSEC and AP-Swiss, the event aims at gathering leading players from the European space and cybersecurity industries to share challenges and solutions related to cyber risks in Space.

CYSAT ’21 has the honor of benefiting from the support of strategic sponsors and political support on the Swiss and European level. After the European Space Agency (ESA) through its Ambassador Platform AP-Swiss, CYSEC announced the European GNSS Agency (GSA) as main event sponsor. Other sponsors include LEAF Space -an Italian company providing ground segment as a service-, and Space Innovation, the former Swiss Space Center.

As stated by Mathieu Bailly, VP Space at CYSEC and member of the organizing committee, the goal of CYSAT ’21 is clear: “We want to build a European ecosystem able to meet the challenge of secure and sovereign European space infrastructures”. This not to be missed opportunity has drawn the attention of top political decision makers. Viola Amherd, Member of the Swiss Federal Council and Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport will be opening the event on Wednesday, March 17th, followed by Florian Schütz, Federal Cyber Security Delegate and Elodie Viau, Director of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications, Head of ECSAT at the European Space Agency (ESA).

CYSAT ’21 is set out to cover the most crucial issues and challenging outlooks of cybersecurity for space applications. Renowned and internationally recognized lecturers will showcase their findings and share their experience on topics including the impact of quantum technologies, security of cloud computing, the extra challenge of operating satellite constellations, reviewing current research on satellite hacking, as well as Legal and financial dimensions of cybersecurity in commercial space.

José Achache, Director of AP-Swiss and CYSAT co-organizer commented: “We are extremely proud of the speaker line-up for this first edition combining ethical hackers and security experts from Oxford University, the MIT, McAfee, Politecnico di Milano, Surrey University, etc with industrial leaders like Airbus Cybersecurity, Microsoft, Telesat, GMV and newspace startups like Leaf Space, Astrocast or ReOrbit. It shows the appetite of the space community to learn about security”
